The youth organization Status:M has, from 22nd till 24th of November, participated at the meeting of global network MenEngage. MenEngage is a global network of organizations and UN agencies which are working on engaging men and young men in processes of building a gender-based society. At the national level, members include more than 400 NGOs from Sub-Saharan Africa, Latin America and the Caribbean, North America, Asia and Europe. The Alliance came together in 2004 with the general goal of working in partnership to promote the engagement of men and boys in achieving gender equality, promoting health and reducing violence at the global level, including questioning the structural barriers to achieving gender equality.
The meeting which was held this weekend gathered members of MenEngage network from Europe. MenEngage Europe was founded in 2009 and the network’s structure, that was developed back then, started creating certain difficulties over time with new members joining continuously. That was the main goal of this meeting. Together with planning some of the network’s activities, we created a new structure for the network, which will gather all of Europe’s members.
From our very beginning, Status:M has “lived” the goals of the MenEngage network, so it was really important for us to show to Europe what we have achieved. Our hard work and efforts have been recognized by the network and we can even say that most of the members showed interest in conducting a program built on the model of “Young Men Initiative”. The meeting was concluded with creating a new structure of networks divided in three different bodies, with members of Status:M in two of them. Status M is really proud of becoming a part of MenEngage Europe steering committee, while it will be coordinating communication between network members on European level.
Know that Status:M will use this newly achieved position to continue promoting our massages of tolerance, healthy lifestyles, non violence, gender equality and mutual respect, but now on a European level as well.
